What is your job title, and what does that position entail?
My job title is Controller. I oversee the accounting operations of the company including; financial reporting, maintenance of accounting records, internal control compliance and preparation of annual budgets.
How long have you worked at Olympus, where did you come from? A little history of how you got involved with Olympus?
I’ve been with Olympus since September 2019. My background is in real estate investment, management, and development. I was looking for a new opportunity and working with a recruiter who sent the company bio and job description my way. While Olympus operates in a completely different industry than my background I felt like this was a unique opportunity and would challenge me out of my comfort zone.
What do you like best about working at Olympus?
The people are great! Everyone is talented, dedicated and hardworking and the culture is fun and energetic.
Describe a little of your past history.
I graduated from the University of Oregon with a BS and Master’s in Accounting in 2008 and 2009, respectively. I worked for a Portland-based public accounting firm where I earned my CPA license and focused on financial statement audits. I performed audits for several different industries including; auto dealers, investment wealth management, restaurant & hospitality, and petroleum wholesale. After public accounting, I left to work for a client involved in real estate investment, management, and development.
Describe some of your hobbies – what do you like to do outside of work?
During my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our dog at breweries, wineries, and any place that allows dogs! I love to read and enjoy a variety of genre’s but historical fiction is my favorite. I enjoy cooking and baking only because I get to eat it afterward. I don’t love getting up early to workout but always feel good after my 5 am OrangeTheory workouts.
What are some key lessons you have taken from your career thus far?
Take the time to invest in others. I’ve had a handful of great mentors who spent extra time to teach and coach me and I’ve tried to pass it along.
Don’t ever take the shortcut. You’ll learn more by doing it the right way the first time.
No matter how hard it is always try to maintain a positive attitude.
