What territory do you cover for Olympus Controls?
I cover the Eastside of the Seattle metro area and north into British Columbia and Alberta.
How long have you worked at Olympus?
I’ve been with Olympus since March 2002. I had been a Regional Manager for Yaskawa prior to working here.
Can you tell us a little about your background and how it helps you in this position?
I received my degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Wisconsin, worked for Danaher/API Motion for a couple years and then was with Yaskawa as a regional manager. So my background was almost all servo motion based which was helpful, but motion is a fraction of what Olympus has to offer. Over the years I have gained experience with the many other technologies Olympus Controls can bring to solve our customer’s automation requirements.
What’s it like working at Olympus?
It’s an excellent company to work for. We have a great culture here and with my previous work experience with large manufacturing corporations I really appreciate the family atmosphere at Olympus. On the professional side of things; you are given the freedom and the tools to solve customer’s problems with a wide array of options. It’s ever changing, which really keeps it fun and challenging.
You mentioned the Olympus ‘Culture’. Can you tell us more about that?
It’s a close group of people even though you are afforded your freedom to work on solutions with customers in your own style. There is a real ‘Work hard – Play hard’ atmosphere here where everyone seems to bring a sense of energy and dedication to everything they do. It comes from the top. Olympus owner, Scott Hendrickson, is genuinely concerned about the work environment and how we can best service our customers. This feeling seems to permeate the whole company.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy the outdoors. I like to play soccer, skiing, sea kayaking, and spending time with friends and family. With two young children there’s never a dull moment.
